I am with a tax-exempt organization and would like to place an order without being charged sales tax. What steps should I follow?

If you wish to place an order for software with one of our partners and it should be exempt from sales tax in the United States, you must first obtain a Cleverbridge Document ID.

These are the steps you should take to obtain the ID:

Step 1

Once you've selected the software you have intended to purchase, you can access our tax-exemption application via the respective shopping cart. Please feel free to review the following article to show this process briefly illustrated.

You can also send a completed exemption certificate to us at payments-us@cleverbridge.com. This document will provide us with all of the information we need to issue your Document ID. Because accepted forms may vary from state to state, we've included information below to help you identify which form you need to complete.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Although the various tax-exempt certificates can differ based on the respective state of the organization or government entity that provides it to us, the criteria and requirements for accepting these forms are the same, should the fields below apply:

  • Only Cleverbridge is listed as the vendor/seller's name and address:
  • Cleverbridge, Inc.
  • 350 N Clark St #700
  • Chicago, IL 60654
  • Buyer's name and address should be that of the organization
  • State Tax ID or EIN/FEIN
  • Date certificate signed should be within 90 days of sale unless form has its own issue date
  • Description of the item(s) should state "Computer Software"
  • Signature of authorized purchaser

We kindly ask you to review your form before sending it to us. Please note, any box on the form listed as “check for a single purchase” should remain unchecked and that we can only process sales tax refunds within 90 days of purchase.

We can't accept W-9, IRS letters, Sales and Use Tax Permits (such as commonly issued in the state of Texas) as well as certificates that merely enable customers to collect sales tax, as valid form of sales tax-exemption.

Step 2

A.) Pre-sale: Once you are provided with a Cleverbridge Document ID, you can enter the ID into the shopping cart in the field where, "Are you a sales tax-exempt organization?", is located.

B.) Post-sale: Cleverbridge can refund sales tax from a previous purchase if you did not have a Document ID at the time the order was placed. However, we can only do so within 90 days of the purchase. Additionally, you must first take the actions outlined above and send us your completed exemption certificate so that we can issue the ID and your refund.

Please feel free to review a complete list of the states in which we charge sales tax here.
